How to Use LyteWriter
LyteWriter turns your handwritten and typewritten pages into organized, certified digital documents. Here's everything you need to know.
Getting Started
- Create an Account — Sign up with your email to sync your documents across devices. Your writings are backed up automatically.
- Install the App — Add LyteWriter to your phone's home screen for the best experience. Go to the Install page for step-by-step instructions.
- Understand Your Dashboard — Once signed in, you'll see your document library. This is your home base. Create folders, capture pages, and organize all your work from here.
Capturing Your Pages
There are three ways to add pages to LyteWriter: use your camera, upload existing photos, or import text files.
- Use Your Camera — Tap the camera button to photograph pages directly. Position your page in good lighting with the text clearly visible. LyteWriter will extract the text automatically.
- Upload Photos — Already have photos of your pages? Tap the upload button and select images from your device. You can upload multiple photos at once.
- Import Text Files — Have existing digital documents? Import .txt, .docx, or .pdf files directly. LyteWriter will add them to your library as editable pages.
- Batch Capture — Capturing multiple pages? Take several photos in one session. LyteWriter will process them all and number them automatically.
Organizing Your Documents
- Create Folders — Tap the folder icon to create a new folder. Give it a name that makes sense for your project.
- Nest Folders — Create folders inside folders for deeper organization. Navigate using the breadcrumb trail at the top.
- Rename Items — Long-press (or right-click) any folder or page to rename it.
- Reorder Pages — Drag and drop pages to change their order. LyteWriter will automatically renumber them.
- Move Items — Drag items to different folders, or use the move option to relocate pages and folders anywhere in your library.
Editing Your Documents
- Open the Editor — Tap any page to open it in the editor. You'll see the original image alongside the extracted text.
- Edit Text — The extracted text is fully editable. Fix any OCR errors, add notes, or rewrite sections. Your changes save automatically.
- View the Original — Toggle the image panel to compare your text with the original page. Zoom and pan to see details clearly.
- Focus Mode — Working on a long document? Enable focus mode to minimize distractions and concentrate on your text.
- Multi-Document Editing — Open multiple pages at once using the multi-edit view. Switch between tabs to work across your entire project.
Exporting Your Work
- Choose Your Format — Export as PDF for sharing, DOCX for editing in Word, Markdown for technical writing, or TXT for plain text.
- Export a Single Page — Select a page and tap export to download just that document.
- Export Entire Folders — Export a whole folder at once. All pages combined into a single file or packaged as a ZIP.
- Include Images — When exporting, choose whether to include the original images alongside your text.
The Seal of Humanity
Every document you capture or write in LyteWriter earns a Seal of Humanity: cryptographic proof that a real person wrote it.
- How You Earn a Seal — Seals are awarded automatically. When you photograph a handwritten or typewritten page, the physical evidence of human writing earns a seal. When you write directly in LyteWriter, keystroke analysis verifies you as the author.
- Share a Verification Badge — Open any sealed document and tap Share Seal. Download a badge image with a QR code to embed on your blog, social media, or portfolio.
- Embed on Your Website — Copy the HTML or Markdown embed snippet from the Share Seal dialog. Paste it into your website, blog post, or README.
- Include in Exports — When exporting to PDF, DOCX, Markdown, or plain text, toggle "Include Seal of Humanity" to add a verification footer.
- Download a Proof File — For formal contexts like academic submissions, publishing, or legal work, download a .lytewriter-proof file for exact, bit-perfect text verification.
- How Others Verify Your Work — Anyone can visit lytewriter.com/verify, enter your verification code, and paste your text. The system checks it using privacy-preserving hashes. Your text is never stored on our servers. No account needed to verify.
Cloud Sync
- Automatic Backup — Every page you capture is backed up to the cloud. Never lose your work again.
- Sync Across Devices — Sign in on any device to access your full library. Changes sync in real-time.
- Manual Sync — Pull down on your document list or tap the sync button in your dashboard to force a sync.
- Offline Access — LyteWriter works offline too. Your changes will sync automatically when you're back online.
